Fluorination at the C-8 of purine nucleosides

Synthesis of 8-fluoro purine 2'-deoxyribonucleosides as well as ribonucleosides was achieved for the first time via metalation-fluorination. Phenylsulphonyl byproducts were obtained in some cases suggesting a competing radical process. Conformational analysis of the 8-fluoro nucleosides by NMR will also be presented.
