Derivatives of sphingosine were designed and synthesized by addition of phosphate to terminal alcohol of sphingosine and functionalized aryl group The addition of sphingosine 1-phosphate leads to a change in the cell morphology of rat C6 glioma cells. In this study, we determined that DS-SG-44 is an agonist of S1P receptors by using this morphologic change as a response marker. Our results suggest that DS-SG-44, a newly-synthesized S1P analogue, acts as an S1P receptor agonist.
