The synthesis of 6-azido nucleosides has been of importance for the improvement of pharmacokinetic properties of drug candidates. In addition, the reactive nature of the azide moiety renders azido nucleosides of interest for cross-linking reactions with other cellular systems. For these reasons we have been interested in developing simple syntheses of C-6 azidopurine nucleoside analogues. We describe herein convenient syntheses of these compounds as well as an evaluation of these compounds by NMR.
