| Water-based formulations are preferred for most consumer and industrial applications. Aqueous suspensions are prepared using polymeric dispersants and emulsification is accomplished using a combination of solvents, surfactants and co-emulsifiers. Further, enhanced biological activity of the final product could be accomplished by producing fine particle suspensions. This paper examines novel delivery approaches to produce concentrates and ready-to-use compositions with particulates/droplets in the range of 10-1000 nm in water. The matrix can be designed by taking into consideration interaction between select polymers and surfactants. These matrices are green and can be applied in personal care formulations and hospital environments and may be effective in clinical applications as well. Examples of the designed delivery systems will be provided along with the stability and/or biological activity of selected active ingredients. Additionally, other additives like specific fragrances, emollients, can be accommodated in the matrix. The end-products can be a disinfecting water-based concentrate or ready-to-use sprayable solution, gel, or tablets depending on the applications. A working model for proto type formulations will be provided. |
