The observed elasticity in materials such as nylon is based on chain entanglement. Our group is interested in the synthesis of polymers with inherit elasticity. To incorporate inherit elasticity; the monomer unit must possess the conformational freedom to expand and contract without the assistance of chain entanglement. Accordingly, a series of 1,10-Disubstituted bicyclo[8.8.8]hexacosane monomers has been synthesized and characterized.
