KRN7000 (1) is an &alpha-galactosylceramide and has proven to be an important tool for probing the role of CD1-mediated NKT cell activation. We are interested in the synthesis of 4-deoxy-4-fluoro-&alpha-galactosylceramide (2), an analogue of KRN7000. The synthesis of this analogue from glucose pentaacetate and Boc-serine Weinreb amide will be described.
