The synthesis and ethylene polymerization behavior of doubly bridged bis(indenyl) and (indenyl)(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride catalysts will be discussed. Bridging groups are ethylene, dimethylsilylene and tetramethyldisilylene group. MAO (methylaluminoxane) and borate activation of these complexes produced highly active ethylene polymerization catalysts that yield high molecular weight polyethylene. The activity and molecular weight of the polymer depend on the structure of bridging groups. (1,1'-Me2Si)(2,2'-Me2SiSiMe2)(Ind)2ZrCl2 and (1,1'-Me2SiSiMe2)(2,2'-Me2Si)(Ind)(4-t-BuCp)ZrCl2 catalysts showed high activity and (1,2'-SiMe2)(2,1'-SiMe2)(3-Me3SiCH2Ind)2ZrCl2 gave high molecular weight polymer in ethylene polymerization.
