An SCS pincer based ligand Nitroxide Mediated Polymerisation (NMP) initiator has been synthesised and shown to polymerise t-butyl acrylate (tBuA) affording polymers with control over molecular weight (MW) and narrow polydispersity (PDI).  1H NMR spectroscopy indicates the sulphur end group remains intact after deprotection of the PtBuA segment to a polyacrylic acid segment. The polymer tethered SCS ligand has been demonstrated to bind to palladium (II), as characterised by a distinctive Pd-C shift in the 13C NMR and a diagnostic MLCT band in the UV-vis spectrum.  A pyridine functionalised NMP initiator has also been synthesised and it effectively initiates the NMP of styrene with similar control over MW and PDI. In this presentation the binding of these two chain end functionalised polymers to form a metallo-supramolecular diblock copolymer will be discussed. The self assembly, selective stabilisation throughout the shell layer and core removal of the resultant nanostructures will be reported.
