Isolated examples of Bi-C bond formation in Bi(III) complexes have been reported over the past few years, leading to the suspicion that Bi(III) alkoxides can be capable of C-H activation. We have synthesized a series of compounds that cleanly demonstrate intramolecular C-H activation with formation of new Bi-C bonds under mild conditions. We will describe the complete characterization of both starting materials and products, and preliminary kinetic data on the Bi-C bond formation.
