Use of POGIL with Introductory Chemistry classes in a highly diverse, large, urban community college presents particular challenges for both instructors and students. Student diversity in preparedness, ethnicity, culture, age, language, and other factors can create barriers to effective team engagement that may not be experienced in a more typical undergraduate setting. For the past year, the author has used POGIL to deliver course content to classes of 60+ students. The discussion will focus on team building strategies, team management, and instructor intervention.
