HR TOF F MALDI MS was carried out on the product formed from reaction of titanocene dichloride and diethylstilbestrol. The product is high molecular weight with a DP of over 1,000. 2,5-Dihydroxybenzoic acid was employed as the matrix. As in other studies there are some lower mass ion fragments, generally to 1,000 daltons, that are created from reaction of the titanocene with the matrix. In comparison to organotin-containing polymers, the number and intensity of these matrix-derived ion fragments are fewer and in less number. Isotopic abundance ion fragment matches were found for ion fragment clusters containg one and two titanium atoms. Ion fragments to about 175,000 daltons were found. Chain breakage occurs at heteroatom sites with little loss of the Cp groups except at sites of bond scission.
