NPS petroleum sulfonate was synthesized in single-tube film sulfonation reactor by the raw material of Suizhong low solidification point naphthene-base vacuum gas oil(VGO) and SO3 sulfonation agent.Under the optimized synthesis conditions,the yield of product was 53.7%,which surpasses the commercial product greatly.The surface tension of NPS is 31.1 mN/m,so its surfacial activity is higher than commercial petroleum sulfonate.NPS possesses high composition percentage of active components,appropriate average molecular weight and broad molecular weight distribution.The interfacial tension(IFT) between crude oil and NPS solutions were determined.NPS reduces the oil-water IFT to 0.1541 mN/m at the concentration of 0.25 wt.%. Besides, when used with n-amylalcohol,sodium carbonate or sodium chloride respectively,IFT is decreased to ultra low value(≤10-3mN/m), hence fulfilling the requirement of enhanced oil recovery.
