Teaching More Effectively with Molecular Modeling Tools
Sponsor: Wavefunction, Inc., Booths 500, 502. instructor: Dr. Jurgen Schnitker. 8:30 to 11AM. Molecular modeling allows students to learn about the molecular nature of matter in a powerful and completely hands-on way. Attend this workshop and learn how to add modeling techniques to your lecture demonstrations as well as to your laboratory and homework assignments. Two suites of software will be featured: Odyssey-a learning tool for introductory chemistry that allows for realistic simulation of molecular motion, and Spartan-the industry-leading modeling application that is used in teaching and research laboratories worldwide. A variety of examples from the standard curriculum for General, Organic, and Physical Chemistry will be given, from the gas laws to chemical reactivity and from bond polarity to basic thermodynamics. Hands-on workshop using notebook computers.
