| The December 2006 Workshop on Enhancing Innovation and Competitiveness Through Investments in Fundamental Research will be discussed. Workshop sponsors included the NSF, NIST, and NIBIB. About 25 leaders from science and technology-based companies and academicians convened for a workshop to focus on identification of key knowledge gaps that could be addressed by fundamental research. Both policies and programs of government agencies are of importance in assuring that U.S. science sustains innovation and technological competitiveness. A summary of the workshop and recommendations from the discussions will be presented. |
