| It is possible through advanced mathematical computations to isolate information about pure chemical compounds without ever isolating the compounds themselves. Equilibrium-Restricted Factor Analysis takes spectrophotometric data of multiple solutions at equilibrium and solves for the molar absorptivities of all the species in solution as well as the thermodynamic parameters that govern the equilibrium reactions. Specifically, a variety of pyridine-based ligands are titrated into Nickel(II) solutions to study the complexation of ligands and metal ions into increasingly complex supramolecular structures. |
