Tetrahedral anions, such as phosphate, perchlorate, and sulfate, are abundant in nature. We have investigated the interactions between α-cyclodextrin and a modified α-cyclodextrin with these anions. ESI-MS indicates that the stoichiometry of the cyclodextrin:tetrahedral anion complex s 1:1. A model based on 1:1 binding has also allowed determination of stability constants.
