| The Chemistry Co-Curricula Initiative at the University of Wisconsin-Washington County campus was initiated in the fall 2000. It emphasizes the important connections between chemistry and other scientific fields as well as the strong relationship between the theoretical concepts and principles and their daily life applications. Its activities include the Science and Math Club seminars, poster exhibits, field trips, scientific demonstrations, collection drives, paid internships, and research. Each semester, students research a certain topic and display their findings in a poster exhibit on campus in celebration of National Chemistry Week (in the fall semester) and Earth Week (in the spring semester). A pre- and post-assessment questionnaire distributed to all student participants in the chemistry co-curricula activities showed that the students learned many applications of chemistry, enjoyed team work, had fun, and certainly increased their appreciation of chemistry and its strong connections with other scientific fields. |
