Molecular modeling in past decade has increasingly moved from the research bench to the teaching laboratory. Pocket HyperChem is an application that runs on a Windows-based handheld. Several inquiry-based experiments for the Organic Chemistry laboratory have been developed on these PocketPCs using Pocket HyperChem. The activities include conformational analysis (using geometry optimization) and vibrational spectra and are used to supplement lecture material and conventional models.
