Triethylamine was reacted with triphenyl carbonium ion to form N,N-diethyl ethylene iminium ion. The reaction was monitored by NMR at constant temperature in deuterated acetonitrile. NMR rate constants were obtained by integration over time of the peaks attributed to decay of the amine and formation of the iminium ion.
