The importance of broadening the participation of underrepresented groups has become more and more recognized by the community of chemists, funding agencies and organizations. Particularly, engaging individuals from those groups in undergraduate research is vital. While we can generally agree on *what* needs to be done and *why* it needs to happen, many still struggle with the mechanisms of *how*. This talk will highlight practical strategies, including targeted recruitment of students from HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and partnerships with NOBCChE (National Organization of Chemists and Chemical Engineers), ABRCMS (Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students), SEA (Science and Engineering Alliance), and/or NSBE (the National Society of Black Engineers). Strategies discussed will vary from those appropriate for individuals to those necessary for institutionalization.
