Since 1988, HHMI has invested over $267 million (of grants totaling $693 million) in programs for undergraduate research and to broaden access to science for all undergraduates. HHMI grants comprise many models. Program structures vary from skill building activities to research-based courses to independent summer research. Research venues range from on to off campus. Mentoring ranges from one on one faculty to student to multilevel groups that include grad students and postdocs. We will discuss several examples.
