| The department of chemistry at WKU held two pilot summer chemistry camps for 5th and 6th grade students during the 2004 and 2006 summer terms. The camp met for three and one half hours per day for a week with sessions being offered in both the morning and afternoon. Students participated in activities such as: tie-dyeing safety goggles, the alchemist's dream, synthesis of aspirin, calorie content of a peanut and polymers. Results from assessment surveys administered to both the participants and their parents will be presented. In addition, descriptions of activities, enrollment, safety forms and surveys will be presented. |
