The SLCC-ACS originated a Chemistry Resource Center in Fall 2004 providing tutoring services for chemistry students. The popularity of this project led to an expansion of the Center's role, establishing it as a Science Resource Center. Based on surveys and student requests, we added tutoring services in physics, biology, anatomy, physiology, genetics, and all corresponding labs. ACS members were recruited to be volunteer tutors. Tutor availability was posted on a weekly basis along with tutors' areas of expertise. A computerized system was developed to keep track of daily student attendance, the times they came in and which subjects were in most demand. From this data we concluded that 1) expanded hours and additional tutors were especially needed on testing days, and 2) a larger study area would augment the tutor's ability to fulfill the SRC's mission. Surveys indicated that students felt the SRC enhanced their educational experience.
