Wikis present a great potential for social networking and we created a wiki bookmark indexing program where users can post links and comments into a user defined hierarchical index. This program uses a three tiered hierarchy consisting of categories, sections and links. When you open an index it is like being in the table of contents of a collaboratively authored virtual book. You see red categories and blue sections which take you to the links. As anyone on the web can create categories, sections or add links; they sort of function as the editors of this text, and by clicking the link you obtain the actual content. We will discuss the use of this program in a classroom environment where we created a Chemical Safety Index, and another version where various high school instructors were able to make their own static html index pages using this dynamic site.
