In this study, various co-solvents with different polarity have been used to investigate the rate of nucleophilic conversion of butyl bromide to butyl chloride in tri-phase catalytic system using clay intercalates. In this research, we are using tetra alkyl ammonium bromide as well as some Gemini surfactants-clay complex as catalysts. Preliminary study in our lab has shown an optimum concentration for the co-solvent when the maximum value for Kobs has been achieved.
