| A wiki is a web site whose content can be edited using just a web browser, and it's gaining traction as an ideal tool for the increasing amount of collaborative work done by both students and teachers. We'll explore the transformation of The Science of Spectroscopy (http://www.scienceofspectroscopy.info) into a wiki so that it can become a hub for groups of teachers and students to collaboratively construct knowledge on and learn about spectroscopy on a real-world site that is widely used. We'll discuss how this project started, ways a wiki can be used in chemical education, look at how the site is benefiting from the contributions of educators around the world, how criticism of the project helped me articulate the value of the wiki, and I'll invite you, the audience, to share your chemistry knowledge and build the site into something useful for your students. |
