CHED 878

James G. Vogel, jvogel@smumn.edu, Department of Chemistry, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, 700 Terrace Heights #14, Winona, MN 55987-1399
This presentation will summarize the experiences and reflections resulting from an initial introduction of the POGIL pedagogy into an analytical chemistry course at Saint Mary's University. Examples of authored POGIL activities, modeled on the general chemistry activities by David Hanson of Stony Brook University, will be shown. Reflections on and evidence for the apparent value and effectiveness of the activities will be discussed. Comparisons will be made between student in-house and standardized exam scores for this year's POGIL class and past classes. Comments by students will also be given and one or two students may be present to answer questions live.
