Participation in the CWCS-affiliated Green Chemistry in Education Workshop, held at the University of Oregon in July 2002, strongly influenced my desire to implement green chemistry across the chemistry laboratory curriculum at St. Olaf College. A little more than one year after the workshop, green experiments were introduced into our organic laboratory courses. Next two colleagues and I were successful in receiving a generous grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to support further implementation of green chemistry. The grant has supported release time for faculty, summer support for students, and travel to national and international scientific meetings where both faculty and students have made numerous presentations. Presently, nearly all of our organic laboratory experiments have a green component, and green experiments have been developed for introductory and analytical chemistry.
