CHED 1730 |
| A new class was developed at Fisk University in computational chemistry using the material presented at a CWCS computational chemistry workshop. The class is intended for students who want to learn to use molecular modeling, who do not necessarily have a strong background in quantum mechanics. Thus, the prerequisites for the class are undergraduate and physical chemistry. The focus of the class is on the basic tools for ab initio, DFT, and NDDO semiempirical methods, and application of these methods to problems in organic chemistry. The class begins with a series of lectures and simple laboratory exercises. The exercises increase in complexity, and introduce new techniques as the course progresses. This class was recently taught as a week long short course in Vietnam, and led to new research collaborations with Vietnamese students and faculty. |
