As part of a program aimed at exploring the potential of heteroscorpionate ligands to support titanium chemistry, we have investigated the synthesis of 1,3-bis-(3,5-dimethyl-pyrazol-1-yl)-propane-2-thiol. The ability of the anion of this compound to suport titanium chemistry is of interest since it is expected to bind titanium in tridentate fashion (analogous to cyclopentadienyl) and the combination of "soft" thiolate- and "hard" pyrazolyl donors might promote hemilabile behavior of the ligand while allowing low-valent titanium species to be realized.
