The interaction of gabapentin with certain enzymes is currently being investigated by researchers in a colleague's laboratory. In order to complete this research, gabapentin is being synthesised in four steps starting from Meldrum's acid and using C13, D, and N15 labelled precursors. The final step is a new application of a zinc reduction process used to produce the amino group. C14 labelling will be done to complete the project.
