| The National Center for Blind Youth in Science, an initiative of the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, oversees http://blindscience.org, a web portal and national clearinghouse of teaching techniques and tools for blind and low vision students. The National Federation of the Blind, the largest consumer organization of blind persons in the United States, utilizes its national membership of over 50,000 blind persons, and other collaborators, as a source of ideas for this web resource. This clearinghouse will be the primary place for educators and parents of blind children to find tools for teaching chemistry and other sciences to blind and low vision students. The development and spread of ideas by this web portal should make the sciences more accessible to blind and low vision students, a group currently underrepresented in the technical fields. |
