| Institutional commitment to excellence in research is one of the keys to success of teacher-scholars at primarily undergraduate institutions. I will describe several strategies for nurturing a culture of research at the departmental and institutional levels, including mechanisms for establishing faculty development programs and interdisciplinary research initiatives in such areas as nanoscience, neuroscience, environmental studies, and bioinformatics. The ideas will be illustrated with case studies featuring institutions that have successful undergraduate research programs. |
