The Center for Authentic Science Practice in Education (CASPiE) has taken a unique approach to undergraduate laboratory education. A similarly unique approach to curriculum development for CASPiE has evolved with the growth of the project. The CASPiE laboratory curriculum is composed of modules which are 6- to 8-week curriculum components that integrate current chemistry research into undergraduate laboratory experiences, with students spending the same time on task as in traditional laboratories. Modules are written by active research scientists and address topics that are of scientific interest; student work contributes directly to the scientists' research and generates novel results. This talk will detail the CASPiE curriculum structure and describe the process of module development in CASPiE, from inception of ideas to laboratory testing and revisions.
