The Department of Chemistry at Purdue University developed a strategic plan which included a mandate to review and revise the undergraduate curriculum. A committee carried out this task by first reaching a consensus about the learning objectives that are desired for a chemistry major in this department. Each course in the major sequence, and the sequence of courses overall, were examined from the perspective of meeting each of the learning objectives identified. A series of recommendations were developed for revision of courses, course sequences and methodologies. The process of this study will and details of our recommendations will be described.
