| A growing number of students are integrating community colleges into their education pathways. A large number of these students take their science classes at community colleges and then transfer into four-year institutions. Through the CASPiE project, Harold Washington College is attempting to make the research process an integral component of the traditional lab class. Over the course of six weeks, students in a Survey of Organic and Biochemistry course work on a CASPiE module focused on the detection of antioxidants common food products. This module makes use of peer led team learning (PLTL) and guides students through the process of research in a field where their data may be potentially included in a larger study. Experiences from the module, and methods for inclusion will be discussed. |
