| The Thai government, through a variety of grant mechanisms, has created opportunities for faculty and students in Thailand universities to collaborate and study with faculty and students in U.S. universities, and to facilitate exchanges. The Thailand Research Fund (TRF), with some special programs under the academic division, and the Royal Golden Jubilee (RGJ) PhD project, provide various schemes of funding, including grants for extended visits by students and faculty at U.S. universities and for faculty and student exchanges. A newly launched project, the “Strategic Frontier Research (SFR) for Human Resource and Research Development Project” by the Commission on Higher Education (CHE) also provides various schemes of funding: grants for research groups(RG), grants for faculty exchanges, and competitive scholarships for Thai students to attend U.S. universities for part of their thesis research. A major program of the SRF project will provide full scholarships on a very competitive basis for students to pursue Ph.D. degrees at overseas universities in several focus areas, including nanoscience, neuroscience, bioinformatics, environmental science, and alternative energy, broadly defined. The chemical sciences will play a key role in this training. This will provide U.S. chemists opportunities to attract top Thai students to their laboratories and create collaborations. Unique research and educational opportunities in Thailand will benefit U.S. students and faculty. The Thai granting agencies facilitate student and faculty exchanges, and provide an international experience for students. |
