2:00 PM-5:00 PM Twin Peaks North -- Sheraton Palace Hotel
Nanotechnology Workshop: Can Something So Small Make a Difference?
This workshop will serve to educate current and future chemists, chemical technicians and undecided chemistry majors about the new advances in nanotechnology. The workshop will start with a PowerPoint presentation of featured topics including: gold nanoparticles, ferrofluids, memory metals and LED technology. Participants will have the opportunity to actually make the gold nanoparticles and ferrofluids as well as examine their basic properties. They will also be able to examine properties of memory metals and LEDs. Experiments will be set up at various stations set up around the room. Detailed instructions will be provided such that students will be able to take the knowledge back to their schools and perhaps use them in local school demonstrations. A basic nanotechnology kit will be given to each Student Affiliate chapter in attendance to enhance the material that is covered in the workshop. All of the covered topics are actual research interests at many graduate schools throughout the United States. To pre-register, please call 800-227-5558 ext. 4480 or email saprogram@acs.org. A limited number of spaces/kits are available.
