| A “heteropoly acid-derived catalyst” was prepared by mixing H3PO4, (NH4)10W12O41 and niobic oxalate solutions, followed by calcination in air (denoted as H3PO4-WO3-Nb2O5). The H3PO4-WO3-Nb2O5 calcined at 773 K exhibited excellent activity in various Friedel-Crafts alkylations using alcohols and an ether as alkylating agents. The repeated use was possible simply by filtering the catalyst without pretreatment. The dependence of the activity on the calcination temperature was remarkably sharp in every reaction; the catalysts calcined at 773-783 K exhibited high activity. |
