In an ongoing project, more than 25 schools and 85 secondary science teachers in Colorado have participated in a study of safety infrastructure and teacher practice. Data from two instruments designed by the researchers, the “School Safety Resource Inventory,” used in a school site visit, and the “High School Science Safety Survey,” an online teacher self-reporting questionnaire, were used. Factor analysis of the data will be done in summer 2006 to determine if differences exist among variables, including school setting, safety resources, teacher self-reported practices and student science achievement.
