Although educational systems vary from country to country, excellence and innovation in chemical education are common goals shared by chemists across national boundaries. The American Chemical Society has engaged in a variety of activities, designed to enhance chemical education and create networks, with our colleagues in Latin America. For example, the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, Uruguay, hosted the Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute on Green Chemistry for graduate and post-doctoral students in the Americas. Química, the Spanish language version of the general chemistry text Chemistry, has served as the basis for workshops on activity-based pedagogy in Mexico, Panama, and Guatemala. This presentation will highlight these, and other, initiatives with Latin America, along with the benefits realized from these interactions.
