Both Zhen bao pills II and III are Mongolian medicine of a kind, which have found extensive use in current therapy.[1] Zhen bao pillIIwas the artificial syntheses and Zhen bao pill III was made from natural materials. But it has a complicated composition and includes various metal elements. Thus, partial least squares(PLS)was applied to the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of Fe( III),Cu(II) and Co(II) in Mongolian medicine with no need for previous separation. The spectrophotometric determination of the metals were done by preparing the complexes of the cations with dibromophenylfluorone(Br-PF). Fe( III),Cu(II) and Co(II) are the cations that form a stable complex with Br-PF, and the peak absorbance of these complexes in the visible region is at 582,552 and 558nm,respectively. The PLS was applied for simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of Fe( III),Cu(II) and Co(II) in artificial mixtures and Mongolian medicine Zhen bao pills, with satisfactory results.
