Adela Castillejos, adelac@servidor.unam.mx, Chemistry Faculty, National Autonomous University of Mexico, Ciudad Universitaria, D.F, México, Mexico
In the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, first year teachers are evaluated by students every year since approximately 10 years ago. I will present the results of my students ratings in my general chemistry courses and I will explain how I use this results to improve my courses. I will also present some ideas that I am convinced could improve the present evaluation method, emphasizing understanding of how much students really learn and interiorize about fundamental subjects, and also abilities which will enable them for their future work, such as working in groups, developing analytical skills, and evaluating as well values (such as responsibility, respect, honesty, etc) they learn within our classes.
