| The Chemistry Department at the University of Connecticut strives to support the community and future scientists through many outreach activities. UConn hosts the annual Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, where over 200 students and teachers watch 30 of the state's best high school investigators present their work in oral or poster form. The top two students present their research at the national symposium sponsored by the Department of Defense. In addition, UConn hosts the ACS Chemistry Olympiad in which over 200 high school students from 25 Connecticut and Massachusetts high schools compete in a series of multiple choice, essay, and problem-based laboratory exams. Finally, UConn Chemistry also hosts and sponsors the Middle School Science Bowl where 24 teams from southern New England compete in a quiz bowl competition and a hydrogen fuel cell car race. The top team travels to the national competition sponsored by the Department of Energy. |
