The Women In Chemistry Alliance (W.I.C.A.) at Georgia College and State University is a comprehensive mentoring program for female chemistry majors that integrates personal and professional development with experiential learning and scientific citizenry. Established in 2001 with eleven chemistry majors and one female faculty advisor, the program aims at attracting females, especially from underrepresented groups, to pursue degrees in the chemical sciences. Students are encouraged to become members and are challenged to plan activities around four main program themes :(1) personal and professional development, (2) academic achievement, (3) outreach, and (4) research. W.I.C.A. has grown to more than 40 members and is a registered student organization advised by two faculty members. This paper highlights the activities and strategies used by W.I.C.A. to educate and empower their female students.
