Participation in a start-up is an intense experience, allowing scientists to shoulder high levels of responsibility. The variety of roles experienced in a start-up deepens one's working knowledge of a field while broadening professional skills and horizons. Not all start-ups go on to become success stories. Entrepreneurs and start-up scientists find that failures can be as valuable as successes in understanding and managing the fragile dynamics of a young company. Successful entrepreneurs are people who can own their mistakes and learn from them. ENS is a fast moving 2.5 year old start-up, moving into commercialization of its first product family. The company possesses sound technology and IP foundations, and management competence in key areas of finance, technology, operations and sales. Unlike the stereotypical technology start-up, ENS also has a strong product focus driving the company forward, aspects that make ENS a valuable case study for chemistry oriented start-ups.
