During the 2005-2006 academic year the Chemistry Department at the University of Central Oklahoma went through a university-based five-year review. The review took place in the form of a self-study that sought information about how the department was aligned with the University mission and goals based on a few specific objectives. The self-study allows the department to understand how it works to achieve these objectives and provides insight on where improvements can be made. This talk will focus generally on how a self-study can inform a department of its opportunities for improvement, with specific examples of how the UCO chemistry department has altered its operation in response to its self-study.
