Emf measurements of hydrogen-silver chloride cells without liquid junction of the type: Pt; H2(g, 1 atm) | PIPES (m1) + NaPIPESate (m2) + NaCl (m3) | AgCl, Ag have been carried out. Measurements were made from 5 to 55°C at 5° intervals. The values of pH for PIPES and PIPESO from 5 to 55°C have been calculated using the simpler Bates-Guggenheim convention and more sophisticated Pitzer equations. The results will be explained in terms of the establishment of a self-consistent and unified pH scale that is applicable to all cases.
