The IUPAC-UNESCO-UNIDO Safety Training Program (http://www.iupac.org/standing/coci/safety-program.html) provides opportunities for experts in health, safety and environmental matters at companies, universities, and institutions in the developing world to obtain hands-on training in state-of-the-art practices by visiting a Host Company (typically an IUPAC Company Associate) for a two- to three-week period. Trainee Fellows complete detailed reports on their training after returning home, and are then expected to apply their new knowledge to make improvements in SHE practices in their workplaces, institutions, local areas, and governments. At each biennial IUPAC Congress, a Workshop on the Safety Training Program is held as an opportunity for Fellows to report on their activities and share best practices. A total of nine Fellows have been trained since 2000, and there is a growing wait-list of trainee applicants. The Training Program process, including training topics and information from trainee reports, will be discussed.
