| Process-Oriented Guided-Inquiry Learning (POGIL) is a student-centered pedagogic approach and philosophy based on an understanding of how people learn best. In a POGIL instructional environment, students work in groups on specially-designed activites to build understanding and develop concepts while at the same time improving important process skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. The instructor acts as a facilitator in helping the students achieve these goals. The POGIL Project, funded by the National Science Foundation throught the CCLI program, dissemiantes information about POGIL and helps instructors implement student-centered approaches through a number of activities. This presentation will describe the basic principles of POGIL and the various professional development activities that the POGIL project provides. |
